

Greene - Mr. Robert J. Monroe, age 85 and a resident of the Saunders Rd. in Greene, died unexpectedly Friday morning February 15th at his home. He was born in Westbrook on January 13, 1928 a son of Harry M. and Marie (Doucette) Monroe. He was educated in Waterville schools and had been a resident of the greater Lewiston-Auburn area community for many years. Bob was a Veteran of the Military having served his country in the Army during WW II until his Honorable Discharge. On August 6, 1949, he married the former Doris B. Bouley and together they settled in the Lewiston-Auburn area to raise their children. She passed away May 4, 1997. Mr. Monroe worked for over 37 years for the U.S. Postal Service and Liberty Mutual until his retirement. His first several years were spent as a mail carrier and in his later years he worked inside as a Dispatch Clerk. Bob was a member of St. Francis Church in Greene, the Postal Clerks' Association, American Postal Workers Union, and the VFW Post # 1603, Frank Hulett Post. He was a loving, devoted and hard-working husband, father and grandfather who will be sadly missed. Robert will also be missed at Bingo and card playing.He leaves a daughter Sharon R. Maheux and husband Larry of Poland; two sons Robert E. Monroe and wife Meg of Waldorf, MD and Richard N. Monroe and wife Kathy of Greene; six grandchildren Meghan, Jenna, and Kayleigh Monroe, Kelsi Fleming, Tanya Cunningham and Robbie Maheux; four great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; three sisters Arlene Elliot of Hartland, ME, Jacqueline Welch of St. Alban, ME and Charlotte Elliot and husband Wes of Cannan, ME; his very special companion friend Jeannine Poirier of Lewiston and several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. Seth Gordon, Dawn, R.N. and the entire staff at the Wound Center at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center for the care and support shown to Bob and his family members during times of his health concern matters. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife, a brother William Monroe, a sister Carmeline Boucher and a brother-in-law Louis Elliot.
