5/25/32 – 2/22/26
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved dad, brother, grandfather, & ggpa. His kindness, wisdom, and unwavering support of our mother, his children, and grandchildren were his most touching attributes. He is pre-deceased by his wife of 67 years, Eadie. Together, they were complete. You never saw one without the other, always holding hands. After her passing in 2018, he was lost and longed for her until he passed. He is also pre-deceased by two brothers, Leon, & Dixie. He leaves behind 3 daughters, Debbie, Cindy, & Robin, and his brother Chet Brown. He also leaves behind 8 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 7 great, great grandchildren.
He was born in Seagraves, Texas and moved to California when he was about 13 years old. He was a hard worker from the time he could walk, picking cotton in the fields with his Momma. Grandma said he was so little; you couldn’t even see him in the fields. He next worked as a very young teen as a dishwasher at Mama Frye’s Café on Rosedale Hwy & Coffee Rd when the Power plant was built in the 1940’s. His next job was working for the “TIMES NEWSPAPER” driving back and forth to L.A. as a teenager. He was always so dependable that he never had trouble finding work. His next job would be for Chevron, and he did very well. It became his career for the next 50 years, retiring in 2001 as the business owner of the Chevron Food Mart on White Lane. He took pride in his work and always treated people with respect. He was a dedicated, honest, and loyal employee to whomever he worked for and then became a respected business owner to the many people he employed. He provided a good home for his family. He taught us girls to water ski after buying a boat, & what fun years they were. We were very lucky to have a dad that would do so many things with us.
He will be remembered for the many things he taught us, honesty in everything he did, his tenacity in never giving up, his endless energy, how he treated others with respect, his kind & gentle spirit, and most of all, his dedicated love & devotion to our mom.
He truly taught by example!
A celebration of life will be held on March 30, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel at Hillcrest Memorial Park (9101 Kern Canyon Rd.).
