Mom was born May 26, 1921, in Bakersfield, California. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband and dance partner of forty-three years, Manuel Escamilla, and ten siblings. She is survived by her children, Angie Killen, Manuel Escamilla, Jr., Jacquie Acosta, Marty Thompson and son-in-law Jim Thompson, seven grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mom enjoyed traveling, gardening, and football. She loved her family, immediate and extended. She got great joy in the company of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a zest for life, and saw the beauty in nature. Her favorite saying was, "Only God can make a tree." She was blessed, not only with two green thumbs, but with green hands. She would take our withered throw-aways, and give them life.
Mom had a smile for everyone -- she knew no stranger. She enjoyed going to church and Sunday school. Her favorite scripture was Psalm 91. The Lord truly blessed her with long life.
We give special thanks to nieces and spouses Gail and Andy Alvidrez, Concha and Teofilo Farias, Jr. , and niece Connie Sanchez, for their love and support.
We would like to acknowledge the care and kindness of the doctors, especially Dr. Shah, and the staff of fifth floor at Memorial Hospital.
We loved our Mom dearly and we will miss her hook-nosed laugh and crow calls. Mom, you were a classic.
