Colby Swank, 51, was a real laid back kind of guy. He didn’t let a whole lot bother him. He was always very friendly and always had that smile and a little chuckle to go with it. He had a passion for playing drums and music was a very big part of his life. His dad, Bob, played drums and his stepdad, Mark, was a keyboard player. Colby was in a few bands over the years; Subdrive, Myndsick, and Buckshot to name a few. He played the “Bucks Birthday Bash” a few times, opening for some renowned artists. That was definitely a high light in his life. They also covered some of Buck Owen’s songs on his very own stage.
Colby was born in Billings, MT but grew up and spent most of his life in Bakersfield. He attended local schools and graduated from Community High School. He went to BC for a short time with tractor repair being his interest. Shortly after, he met Jim Cisneros at Top Dog Swimming Pool Repair. He was so good to Colby. He worked with them over 12 years and gained a lot of knowledge and respect within that community. He later ran a pool business of his own, doing cleaning and repairs. He worked up until his heath wouldn’t allow it anymore. He then spent most of his time with his boys. Knowing his time was limited, he tried to go and do anything he could with his kids or just hang out with them. He even took a trip to go visit Brendan, Ruthy, and Colby’s first grandchildren, who he was so proud of! Austin was able to go with him and experience traveling by airplane and seeing his brother and nephews.
Colby is survived by his wife Stacy; his sons Brendan Butler and family, Caleb and girlfriend Maddie, Evan, and Austin; his mother-in-law Margaret (Maggie) Pendley, his cousins; his aunts and uncles; his nephews, and many wonderful friends.
He is preceded in death by his mom, Susan (Sue) Yeary; dad Robert (Bob) Swank; stepdad Mark Yeary; sister Shandye Swank; and all four of his grandparents.
He was very much loved. We will miss him immensely!
