Born in Mt. Vernon, Washington, Don spent much of his childhood and teenage years in Fresno. His early life was marked by a deep love for music, which led him to perform throughout the West Coast Jazz scene. Eventually, he returned to California’s Central Valley to share his passion through teaching. For 25 years, Don inspired students as a dedicated music educator—a role that brought him immense fulfillment and joy.
Don is survived by his beloved wife, Darlene; two sons, Brian (Heather) and Steven (Jill); five grandchildren—David, Hannah, Aidan, Graham, and MacKenzie; and his brother Tom (Claris). He was preceded in death by his younger sister, Mary Ann.
Though Don enjoyed many things–from time on the golf course to evenings cheering for the Dodgers and Lakers, to reading mystery novels and the Bible in his favorite chair–music remained the defining rhythm of his life, and the way he most often gave himself to the world.
A graveside service will be held on May 29 at 9:00 at Hilcrest Memorial Park.
May the peace of Christ bring comfort to those who knew and loved him.
