Edith was born on July 18, 1936 in Houston, Texas, to parents Winnie Iona Lawhorn-Williams and Dillard Williams, both from Oklahoma. As a small child, Edith lived in Humble, Texas, later moving with her family to Oklahoma. At the age of 9, Edith moved with her family to Lamont, California, where she resided until 1998, attending local schools and Arvin High School. After meeting the love of her life, John “Johnny” Burns, at Church on Valentine’s Day and marrying him on July 5, 1952, they later relocated to Bakersfield, California, where they both lived until passing.
Edith is survived in death by her children Judy Sparks (Curtis), Debra Pounds (Jeff), and Roger Burns (Cindy), her grandchildren Katie, Jenny, and Cameron Sparks, Jeffrey Pounds (Amanda), Nicole Craig (Gabriel), Tara Riess (Joel), Traci Brazeal (Seth) and her 9 great grandchildren Adalyn and Janalyn Pounds, Mathew, Riley, Liam, and Aurora Craig, Madalyn and Sophie Riess, and Harper Brazeal.
Edith is also survived in death by her brother Carl Williams, sister JoAnn Moore, sister-in-law’s Nancy Williams, Jean Burns, Darlene Goldston, and brother-in-law’s Ray Burns, and Roy Ross.
Edith is preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Johnny Burns, parents Winnie Iona Lawhorn-Williams and Dillard Williams, brother Jimmy Williams, sisters Virginia Cagle, Norma Jean Arnold, Mary Ross, Lois Brown, brother and sister-in-law’s, Lila Williams, Joyce Burns, Leroy Moore, George Cagle, Doyle Arnold, William Ray Brown, Pat and Delvin Burns, Wesley and Willie Burns, Frank Burns, Carl and Rose Burns, Charles Burns, and Gary Brown.
Edith was a kind soul who enjoyed reading, planting flowers in her garden, feeding the doves that would visit her, and traveling with Johnny to new destinations around the world. She enjoyed beach trips and spending time with her family, grandchildren, and pets. Whether it be attending their school programs, sports events, graduations, weddings, family lunches, or simply displaying the artwork gifted to her around her home, she never missed an opportunity to express how proud she was of her family.
A viewing will be held Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. a graveside funeral service will be Officiated by Rev. Pete Baker the following day, Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at 10:00 a.m., both will take place at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Cameron Sparks, Jeffrey Pounds, Joey Riess, Gabriel Craig, Ray Burns and Austin Lackey. Honorary pallbearers will be Carl Williams, Roger Burns, Jeff Pounds, JoAnn Moore, and Katie Sparks.

Edith’s mischievous sense of humor, kindness, and love will always be missed and cherished in our hearts.
