1924-2024
Beth Curtis is now absent from the body and face to face with the Lord. She was born in Brookville, Ohio to William and Clara Siefer. Her education included graduating from Phillipsburg High School in Ohio, Wheaton College in Illinois and, later in life, obtaining an MA degree from CSUB.
Her teaching career, which spanned over fifty years, began in Alaska and eventually brought her to Kern County in the 1950's. She taught at Greenfield Elementary, Rio Bravo Union, and Elk Hills schools, as well as special education classes for the Kern County Superintendent of Schools. She continued substitute teaching long after she retired.
It was in Kern County that she met and married the love of her life, Bob Curtis. They were both square dancers and met at the church group Geneva Fellowship. They began married life at Bob's farm near Shafter, and soon had two daughters, after which they moved into town to Old Stockdale in Bakersfield.
Beth was a member of Cotton Wives, California Retired Teachers Association, Kern County Historical Society, Sixty Plus Club, Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and P.E.O. Chapter OU. She was also a lifelong Bridge enthusiast and square dancer, and spent many years as a Sunday School teacher and church pianist.
Her love of traveling took her to thirty countries and every continent except Antarctica. Favorites among her travels were visiting St. Petersburg, Russia and her very last trip, which was a cruise through the Panama Canal.
She was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by daughters Laura Neufeld and Leanne Rose (Frank) and her beloved grandchildren Jason Tassey (Jovina), Julie Leary (Brian), Ty Rose (Amy) and Anthony Rose. She has nine beautiful great-grandchildren.
At her request, there will be no services. Memorials in Beth's name may be made to the charity of your choice.
