

Joan Mary Leona (Meyer) Abler of Bakersfield, California, passed away on January 8, 2026, with her loving children at her side. The youngest of eight children, Joan was born on September 24, 1935, in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. In 1956 she married Leo Abler. In 1964, they moved to Bakersfield with their two children. Joan worked for the Bakersfield City Schools Food Service and retired from that career.
Joan was cherished and loved by all who knew her. She lived life to the fullest with joy, kindness, and inexhaustible loving support for her family and others. As a Roman Catholic she was devout in her Christian faith. Her life is inspiration to lead one with compassion and grace.
Joan is survived by her two children Nancy Abler-Sanchez (Ricky), Mark Abler (Julie); three grandchildren Ryan Abler(Shelly), Amie (Abler) Davis (Steve), and Hayley Abler Sanchez (Leonard Berne); five great grandchildren Zachary and Lexie Abler, Baylyx, Baylee and Braunce Davis; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Leo, infant son Gerard, parents, her siblings and their spouses.
Visitation will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Chapel, located at 9101 Kern Canyon Road, Bakersfield, CA 93306, on January 21, 2026, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
A visitation and rosary will take place at Christ the King, 1800 Bedford Way, Bakersfield, CA 93308, on January 22, 2026, from 9:00 am to 10:00 am, followed by a funeral service at the same location from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
The graveside service will be conducted at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 9101 Kern Canyon Road, Bakersfield, CA 93306, on January 22, 2026, from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm.
