In 1957 as a rookie Deputy Sheriff assigned to the Lamont Sub Station I first met Joe when he would be working that beat (69-18) as I recall.  At the time the Sheriff and CHP were on a common frequency and could monitor each other's calls. Joe backed us frequently and we did likewise. 
Working with and around Joe was a delight - a three ring circus - and lots of fun.  I recall he was growing grapes south east of Lamont, and when on the 9P-5A shift (which was most of the time) I would check the temp and his vineyards and call him when I got low.  Haven't seen or talked to Joe in years, and am so saddened to hear of his passing.  Quite a guy!  God's speed Joe.  Dick Mason

Joe and Sonja were very sweet people, i took care of his fathere in law and would run into both of them occasionally and they never forgot my daughter or me. He will be deeply missed and my prayers go out to his family

My uncle Joe was a very kind man but also new how to correct a child. Since I have moved to OK when I would call & he would answer we would talk for a few minutes about this or that, I will miss hearing his big booming voice. Our thoughts & love are with all of you.

Joe was my unofficial Godfather. He and my parents, Richard and Ruby Calciano, were very good friends.  They hunted together, and just spent time together. I loved Joe. I remember when I received Jesus and was baptized at the age of about 15, my dad had already passed and my mom couldn't come because she was working. I invited Joe to my baptism and he was there, walking with a cane. I don't remember how his foot was injured, but he was there just the same. I didn't see Joe over the years, but always remembered how much he cared and what a great man he was. My prayers go out to his family. He will be missed terribly.  I love you, Nino Joe.
