Peggy Ann Barker

She was born on October 30, 1948, in Bakersfield, CA. to Zelmer and Thelma Ward. She was the eldest child with three siblings growing up in the small community of Tehachapi, CA.

Peggy graduated from Tehachapi High School, class of 1966 and married Ronnie Barker on September 22, 1967. Peggy and Ronnie would welcome two daughters into their lives, Melanie Barker Hutchison and Erin Barker Strategos.

She worked at Kern Medical Center for more than 30 years prior to retirement. Peggy loved the Lord and read her bible often over the years. She was the proud grandmother to six grandchildren and one very special great-granddaughter. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s activities, family get-togethers, dining out, going to the movies and so much more.

Peggy was preceded in death by her father Zelmer, mother Thelma and brother Donald Ward.

Peggy is survived by husband of 55 years, Ronnie, daughters, Melanie Hutchison and Erin Strategos and son- in-law Emmanuel, grandchildren, Demetrius, Beau, Isaiah, Lane, Lydia, Constantine and great-granddaughter Stella. Sisters, Barbara Brannon (Mike), Jane Hunsaker (Steve) and her nieces and nephews.

Although she faced many medical and health challenges in the final years of her life, Peggy remained brave, strong, courageous and positive until the very end. Her positive attitude and spirit as well as her enjoyment of life in the face of her challenges were an unending inspiration to her family, who loved her deeply and will very much miss her presence in their lives.

In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations to be made to the charity of choice in Peggy’s honor.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 11th from 5:00pm-8:00pm and graveside service on Thursday January 12th at 11:00 at Hillcrest Memorial Park
