As a young man, Pete was a gifted and multi-faceted athlete participating in basketball, soccer, triathlons, cycling and tennis.
And throughout his life he was a constant presence at his nieces and nephews activities who fondly knew him as "Uncle Pete." He loved traveling and collecting African art and had a collection of pieces he proudly displayed to family and friends. He had a huge heart, always finding the time to attend family events, never forgetting a birthday or important date, always willing to lend a helping hand to family, friend or neighbor. His love of animals often found him adopting stray and/or abandoned cats and dogs. Even with a limited income, he gave to those in need and contributed to a number of charities.
In his last years his physical being began to fade but his indomitable spirit carried him on. We who knew him were inspired to find in ourselves the thoughtful, caring, and loving nature that we saw in him.
Preceded in death by his father, Richard Blackhurst, he is survived by his mother, Pat Blackhurst, sister, Linda Gonzalez (Charlie), brothers, David, Paul (Stephanie) and Tim Blackhurst and a host of nieces and nephews.
