I was born November 9, 1939, on a cold and snowy day, in Vinton, Iowa, the second child and first son of Leland and Sally Lewis. I passed from this life on September 29, 2016 and hopefully am now in the presence of our Holy Father God Almighty.
By the time you are reading this, I will have already had a glorious reunion with my parents, the first love of my life and first wife, Mary Black Lewis, my brother, John Christopher, my sister, Susan Lewis Wu and her husband, James Jessie, one of my grandchildren, Matthew Dae Lewis, my uncle and aunt, Bob and Janet Lewis, my best friend, Kenneth Lisenbee, and all my other family members, including Mary's and Linda's, and friends that predeceased me. What a Grand Reunion it was!
My family moved to Bakersfield in 1943 where I attended local schools graduating from East Bakersfield High School with the infamous class of '58. I then attended Menlo Junior College in Menlo/Atherton, the then back door to Stanford, where my mother had visions of me attending. The next year I attended the University of North Dakota, at Grand Forks, North Dakota where my father had attended before me, and he wanted me to attend. I graduated in 1962 with a B.A. in, of all things, foreign language with a minor in natural science. If the world were to receive an enema, the syringe would be inserted @ Grand Forks, North Dakota. This comment refers to the weather and not the people. Since I could do absolutely nothing to earn a reasonable living, given that background, I decided to return to California and enrolled in Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco, graduating with a J.D. in 1965.
While attending Hastings, I married Mary Black, whom I met while attending UND, and we had our first child, Jennifer Dae Lewis. Shortly after graduating and taking the bar exam, the three of us moved to Bakersfield where I was employed as a deputy district attorney under Kit Nelson through 1968. While at the district attorney's office, Mary and I had our second child, Stephen David Lewis. In 1969 I joined the law firm of Bradley, Wagy, Bunker, Hislop, Gibbons & Leddy. I became a partner in that firm in 1972 which thereafter and until it's dissolution in September 1988 was known as Wagy, Bunker, Hislop & Lewis.
I was admitted to practice law in the State of California and the Federal District Court, Eastern District; I was a long time member of the Kern County Bar Association serving as its president 1972-73 and again in 1988-89 as a favor to Ralph Wyatt. I served on the board of the Heneritta Weill Child Guidance Clinic in the '70s. I proudly served on the Judicial Nominees Evaluation Committee State Bar of California 1986-1988 and served as a member of the State Bar of California Executive Committee 1986-1989. I retired from the active practice of the law in 1990.
I am survived by and will greatly miss the second love of my life, my wife Linda Gail whom I had the pleasure of spending the rest of my life with since our marriage, September 10, 1994. I will also miss my daughter, Jennifer and her husband, Todd of Chandler, AZ, my son Stephen of Bakersfield, CA. my uncle and aunt Jack and and Trixie Brown, of Monterey, Ca. I will also miss all my grand and great grand children, and I will also miss all surviving members of Mary's family and Linda's family, and the many friends I had the pleasure of knowing while living my life, usually, to its fullest.
I lived a good and long life doing and seeing just about everything I wanted to do and see and tried to get the most out of life by enjoying family, friends, traveling, golf, fishing, a good bottle of wine, and almost any card, domino or board game. I hope I am missed by family and friends half as much as I am missing them and I am especially missing my very good card playing friends. You all know who you are.
My services will take place at Hillcrest Memorial Park on Friday, 10/7/2016 at 1:30 Pm. In lieu of flowers I would appreciate donations being made to the charity of your choice. Thank you. It was one hell of a ride, and all my pleasure...........until we meet again...... Peter Dae Lewis
