She was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, John Carter Sr.; her brothers Jim, Harold, and Clifford; and her sisters Maxine, Beatrice, and Ruth.
Geri is survived by her sons, John Carter Jr. and Gary and wife Sandra Carter; her grandson Justin and wife Tiffany Hartley; and her remaining sister Nina and husband Charles.
Geri dedicated many years working at Fiddlers and at a dress shop known as Ms. of Hillcrest where she formed numerous lifelong friendships. She and Dad traveled extensively, visiting many wonderful places with Gary, John Jr., and a host of friends and relatives.
After Dad's passing, Geri moved to Florence Gardens, where she spent 25 years as the beloved "unofficial mayor." Her outgoing personality never allowed her to meet a stranger. She found solace and comfort among her friends during the loss of her husband. Later, as her health declined, she moved to Bakersfield Post Acute, where she received excellent care and formed new friendships with staff and fellow patients.
Mom was most proud of her faith in God. She dedicated her life to serving Him, reading her Bible daily, and living as a devoted Christian. Her unwavering faith was a guiding light throughout her life.
A memorial service will be held on March 6th, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Canyon Hills Assembly in the Summit, located at 7001 Auburn Street, Bakersfield, California 93306.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all her friends at Florence Gardens and the staff at Bakersfield Post Acute for their outstanding care and compassion for Geri.
