On Nov. 16, 2017, Sidney Leonard Payne, son to Leonard and Margaret Payne, passed away peacefully at the age of 84 while at the Hoffman Hospice Home. Born on Aug. 23, 1933 in Pryor OK. After graduating high school, Sid moved to Bakersfield, CA where he built a thriving trucking business that is currently operated by his son. In his 20’s he bought a motorcycle and started racing. He went on to win two AMA Nationals and carried the national #32 from 1962-1967 before retiring in his 30’s. He continued his love of riding through travels by road or by riding in the sand, creating many friendships along the way. He loved the saying “Rubber Side Down”. It could be said he passed on his natural talent to his grandson, who won his first AMA National Championship this year. Sid was a prideful man who believed in tough love and practiced it. He had a big heart and was loved by many. He leaves behind his wife of 38 years, Carol. He was a father, grandfather and great-grandfather to a blended family with a list too long to name them all. Funeral services will be held Tues. Nov. 21, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Hillcrest Memorial Park Chapel.
Arrangements under the direction of Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary, Bakersfield, CA.
