On Friday, April 19th 2024, Stanley Patrick Sweaney passed away peacefully in his home after a short illness. He was 78 years old. Stan was born to Carol Benjamin Sweaney and Kathleen Sonya Bramwell Sweaney on May 26, 1945 in Taft, California. He was the fourth of eight children including Gary, Randy, Judy, Tim, Greg, Jeff, and Scott. Stan met Pamela Ann Edgmon while she was still in high school. Just 8 months later, they were married in Taft on April 9, 1965. They celebrated their 59th anniversary this April.
Stan graduated from California State University, Fullerton in 1971 and later served as a Kern County Probation officer until his retirement in 2000. Stan was an avid outdoorsman who loved camping, backpacking, hunting, fishing, rafting, and above all else, racing/riding motorcycles with his friends and family. He especially enjoyed going to his home in Idaho. Stan was always ready with a joke, and no matter how hard you tried not to laugh, he always had everyone at the table rolling with laughter. Stan was a devoted husband, father, grandpa, and great grandpa, always ready to entertain whether it was popping out his teeth, wearing the now infamous big black spider on his head, or sneaking around in a Santa suit outside a darkened window at Christmas time. His wife, Pam, says that even on their very first date all she did was laugh.
Stan leaves behind a large and loving family who are deeply saddened by the sudden loss of their husband, dad, grandpa, and great grandpa. He is survived by his wife Pamela, his sons and their wives, Andy and Stephanie and Sean and Karen. He is also survived by his grandsons and their wives Joshua and Kyrstin and Jacob and Dinah. He will be sorely missed by his great grandsons Finley and Cooper and the new baby due to arrive in the fall.
Stan’s funeral service will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary on May 24, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. Family and close friends are invited to attend a reception at Benji's French Basque Restaurant after the service.
A memorial service for Stanley will be held Friday, May 24, 2024 from 9:00 AM at Funeraria Del Angel Hillcrest, 9101 Kern Canyon Road, Bakersfield, CA 93306.
