Sylvia Faith Leong Shishido was born to William and Helen Leong on July 14, 1936 in Bakersfield, California. The second of three kids, she grew up amongst the tight-knit Asian community of the time, making many friendships that would last through several generations. After graduating from Bakersfield High School in 1954, she continued her pursuit of life at San Jose State University where she would receive her degree in Sociology in 1960. From there she continued on to Los Angeles where she would eventually meet Minoru Shishido. Together they built a happy life and a successful business, Cycle Tote, as they settled down to start a family back in Bakersfield. Even after the loss of her husband, Sylvia persevered thanks to family and friends and raised her two sons with endless love and devotion. She passed on October 2, 2011 surrounded by loved ones. She will be deeply missed every minute of everyday. Visitation for Sylvia Shishido will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with a Funeral Service to begin at 12:00p.m. in the Hillcrest Memorial Chapel. Hillcrest Memorial Park & Mortuary.
