

Virginia Mae Wallace, 83, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2017, surrounded by her family. She was born in the beautiful little town of Mountain Grove, Missouri on May 27, 1933, to Harry and Mae Cowden, the oldest of their five children. As a young child, her parents traveled to Bakersfield to visit an Aunt and decided to make their new home in Bakersfield.Virginia attended local schools and graduated from Bakersfield High School in 1951. In 1952 she met and married Doine Riggs and for the next twenty plus years, she was a stay-at-home Mom raising their four sons, Steve, Richard, Don, and Carl.She married Dallas Wallace on January 25, 1974. He had three children, David, Diane, and Philip. Dal and Virginia enjoyed spending time and traveling together. They made trips to Hawaii, Bermuda, Washington and several trips to Australia as well as frequent travel within California to visit with family.Dallas and Virginia moved to Lompoc in 1985 where they found enjoyment managing the Willows Mobile Home Park for seventeen years. There they made many good friends and enjoyed many rounds of golf at the Country Club.In 2008, they moved back to Bakersfield to be closer to the family. Virginia loved researching her genealogy and anything to do with family. She was an avid crossword puzzle solver.Left to mourn her passing and cherish her memory is her husband, Dallas M. Wallace; sons, Steve Riggs, Richard Riggs (Lea) all of Bakersfield, and Don Riggs (Karen) of Newcastle, NSW, Australia; her brother, Phillip Cowden (Cindy) of Bakersfield; stepsons David (Becky), and Philip Wallace; thirteen grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, three of her siblings; her son, Carl Riggs; two grandsons, Kevin Riggs and Joshua Riggs and step-daughter, Diane Wallace.Visitation will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park on Wednesday, April 26th from 5:00-9:00 pm. The memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, April 27th at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 9101 Kern Canyon Road, Bakersfield, CAThe world is dimmer today as her bright star fades but Heaven is a little brighter.
