11/23/1997 – 7/23/2021
Jason D’Auria Patton was born on November 23, 1997 in Victorville, California and passed away on July 23, 2021 in Torrance, CA.
Shortly after his birth, Jason was diagnosed with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. He spent the first month of his life in the Neonatal ICU at St. Bernadine’s Hospital in San Bernardino.
On December 24, 1997, Jason received a new heart from another baby, named Dominic, at Loma Linda Hospital.
Jason grew up in Barstow and graduated from Barstow High School in 2015. He subsequently attended California State University Dominguez Hills and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2019 with a bachelor's degree in Healthcare Management. At the time of his death, Jason was just a few units short of a Master of Arts degree in Public Administration.
Jason resided in Torrance and was employed as a Community Inclusion Facilitator at Social Vocational Services (aka SVS), an organization that serves people with developmental disabilities.
Jason loved hip hop music, believed in hard work, and was always looking for a way to make another buck. That search led him to take a course in wholesale auto sales over the summer break from his post-graduate studies.
Jason was a good listener. When he talked with someone, he was fully engaged with that person. As such, he carefully considered any advice offered to him – whether or not he decided to take it.
As a young boy, Jason got a puppy that he named Striker. When Striker was only two or three years old, he developed cardiomyopathy, a disease of the heart, and passed away. Jason’s Uncle Tom always said of Striker, “He was the best man I ever knew.”
More recently, Jason relished hiking on the Palos Verde Peninsula with his girlfriend, Anahy, in their spare time. Despite, or maybe because of, having very different personalities and interests – “opposites attract” being what it is – they adored each other, and their personal traits melded well together.
Jason is survived by his mother, Jennifer D’Auria, of Corona; his uncle Charles D’Auria; Jimmy D’Auria and Joni D’Auria Ostrander; Fran Balsamo; Karen Balsamo Brouwer and family; Brittany, Michael, Kristen, and Sarah D’Auria; brothers Luke Taylor of Irvine, Thabang Kesiilwe of Las Vegas, and Kagiso Kesiilwe of Philadelphia, PA; as well as more aunts and uncles; his Uncle Tom of Barstow – to whom I (Jason’s Mom) give a special thank you for being there through it all -- your support, guidance, love and for showing what a father should always be.
Jason is also survived by the love of his life, Anahy Fuentes of Norwalk. I can honestly say as Jason’s mom that he left this world being the happiest he had ever been, and a lot of that is due to Anahy. He grew wings of independence and I will forever be grateful for her love and support for my son.
My thanks to Loma Linda Hospital for your support in giving my son a second chance in life. It was not long enough, but it was time that was well worth all the love and heartache.
A Memorial Service will be held at Meads Mortuary, 26930 Irwin Road, Barstow, CA on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at 1:00 PM. There will be a reception immediately following the services at the Hampton Inn, 2710 Lenwood Road, Barstow, CA.
