Malvin Lee Wessel

Malvin served as a Senior Resident Agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation and was responsible for the entire San Bernardino County Jurisdiction. After more than 20 years of service to his city and country he retired. Mal was also a member of Barstow's City Government holding the offices of Councilman and Mayor. He and his wife Connie were part of the business community and always supported local trade. Along with Connie, Mal founded the Barstow Rodeo Group (Barstow Rodeo Stampede) and Hi~Desert Charities (Golf Tournament & Bi~Annual Off~Road Poker Runs), non~profits which have benefited so many. Through his selfless acts and love for his community and it's people, Mal has touched more lives than it is possible to ever count.

Malvin graduated Valedictorian from high school at the age of 16, was a member of Sigma Gamma Lambda, President, earned degrees with the highest honors at Southwestern University and CSU Long Beach. He was a member of the United States Army where he was CID, served in the Korean War, and earned several medals of distinction. Mal was involved with countless charitable events to raise funds and items for those in need. In the early 70's Mal coined the phrase "Barstow ~ The Little Town With A Big Heart", which is repeated over and over again, with some saying 'Town' and others 'City' since our incorporation.

Malvin Lee is preceded in death by his parents Harry and Ruth Wessel; son, Joseph Wessel; daughter Lynn Wessel-Tanza; and grandson Steven Wessel-Tanza. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Constance Ruth Flowerbird Wessel; daughters, Terry Saenz and Shawn Wessel; son~in~laws, Steven Saenz, Drake Allmon, and Rick Tanza; granddaughters Miranda Wessel~Allmon, Laura Morris, Autumn Saenz and Vanessa Meyer; grandsons Gharyd Wessel~Martin, Conley Wessel, Jeremy~Lee Wessel and Jason Saenz; nine great grandchildren, and several other family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to Mal's non~profits Barstow Rodeo Group and/or Hi~Desert Charities through Desert Community Bank of Barstow.
