Tom was born on January 6, 1956, to Manuel Mitchell and Murl Neely in Silver Bow County, Montana. Later in life he moved to California where he met his wife Diana in Baker, CA. and they were married in November of 1989. Tom started his career as a firefighter/EMT, later becoming a truck driver for many years, then went into heavy duty towing. As the years progressed, he “slowed down” by becoming a groundskeeper at BVUSD. On the weekends he was a mechanic and worked on tow trucks and buses.
Through the years, Tom enjoyed taking his children and later his grandchildren to the fair, fixing trucks, building things with his grandchildren and spending time with his family. He enjoyed having the grandbabies over for pancake breakfasts and lots of water play in the summer. Outside of work, Tom was an active member of the community, he volunteered his time at community events and was on the volunteer Fire Department. Tom loved listening to his music as long as it was some Merle Haggard or Willie Nelson.
Tom was predeceased by his father Manual Mitchell, mother Murl Neely, son Robert Mitchell. He is survived by his Wife Diana Mitchell; his sons, Thomas M. Mitchell (wife Tammy), Billy Hay; his daughters, Valarie Fetters, Darlene Bracken (husband Dennis); his grandchildren Alexis, Jasmine, Justin, Bradley, Kenneth, Jaydn, Clint, Joscelynn, Kaydence, Andi Jeanmarie, and great-grandchildren Grayson, Niko and Noah; Sister Sarra George (Mitchell); nieces and nephews Stephen, Eric, Tabytha, and Lacy. He will be greatly missed by all those that he’s left behind and will forever be in their hearts.
A “Celebration of Life & Memorial Service” will be held at Jesse Meyer Community Center, 56725 Park Ave, Baker, CA on July 14, 2022, at 5:00 PM.
