Agnes began life in Arkansas amidst a large and loving family, spending her youth playing, working, and praying with her family, which included her parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, and loads of cousins. She often spoke fondly of traipsing through the woods and up and down Old Congo Road in Benton. She shared a bed with her sister Evelyn during their childhood and remained close throughout their lifetimes. As the oldest sibling, Agnes, was a natural caretaker and remained so during her lifetime, often the first to offer comfort and care to all within her family. One of the reasons she loved Facebook was it gave her the ability to connect and reconnect with her family. It was not until she was 11-12 before they had electricity in their house, and then it was a single cord with a bulb that hung from the ceiling in the living room. What an amazing testament to the incredible technology she witnessed in her lifetime.
When her family moved to Beaumont, California in 1947, Agnes was 18 years old and began her long and varied career in the food service industry by working at Gray’s Ice Cream. She met and married Bob Sanders. Bob and Agnes lived in various parts of Southern California from the desert to the ocean. She worked for many years at the Steak House in Knott’s Berry Farm and then at many historic and renowned establishments in Palm Springs. In the late 1960’s, Agnes now a single Mom providing for her three kids, moved her family to Palm Springs, with the help of her brother, Curtis, she purchased a house in Dream Homes. In 1972, while on vacation in Montana, Agnes married Paul Tyler. In the mid-70’s Aggie and Paul moved from Palm Springs to Clark Fork, Idaho. In Sandpoint Agnes worked at both Travelers and Connie’s Cafe and finishing her working career at K-Mart. Lots of memories with friends and family were created up in the panhandle of Idaho. In 2010 upon the death of Paul, Agnes came back to the Pass area to be close to family. She moved in with her sister, Evelyn, with their brother Curt and sister-in-law Dee as their neighbor.
In 2016, Agnes moves to Cathedral City to be closer to her son and family. At age 86, this was the first time that Aggie had ever lived alone, she found the freedom from caring only for herself liberating. She developed daily routines that included reading the paper, doing crossword and sudoku puzzles, following her favorite baseball team the Angels, and watching her favorite movies on Hallmark, along with the nightly dose of Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! She found peace and solitude in reading scripture and joy in watching her family grow with the addition of her beloved great-grandchildren.
Agnes’s final wish was to join her family at Mountain View Cemetery in Beaumont, California. A memorial and celebration of life for Agnes will be held Saturday, January 28, 2023, 11:00 a.m., at Mountain View Cemetery, 1315 Edgar Ave, Beaumont, CA 92223.
