

Our beloved wife, aunt, and friend, Bette Ruth Hanson Jensen, passed away on January 8, 2014, in Yucaipa, California. She provided a lifetime of exemplary compassionate service and unconditional love to all.
Bette was born on June 9, 1928 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Axel William Hanson and wife Ruth Wilhelmina Martinson. She highly valued and appreciated her Swedish ancestry. Bette grew up on the family farm, graduating from Pine City High School. She obtained her college associate’s degree in Minnesota and was employed by First National Bank before journeying west, meeting her future husband, Gordon Irving Jensen, in Logan, Utah.
Following the couple’s marriage, they lived many years in Beverly Hills, Westwood, Westchester, and Palos Verdes, California. During this time, Bette worked briefly at Bank of America and Blue Shield before her starting her career at Union Oil of California, retiring as supervisor of data processing after 36 years of outstanding performance, dedicated service and loyalty. Following her early retirement, she was employed by the Palos Verdes library system for five years.
Bette and husband Gordon moved to Banning in October 2001, enjoying new friendships and associations in this area. Bette’s lifetime interests included travel and gardening, always beautifying her homes. She was a strong supporter of equality pay and benefits for women in the workplace. Bette was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in numerous capacities, primarily in the women’s organization. She displayed a notable love and appreciation for animals, especially her adored dogs. Bette will always be remembered for her optimism, contagious laughter, graciousness, and integrity.
She was preceded in death by her parents and older sister Bernice Hanson Wagar. She is survived by her devoted husband, Dr. Gordon I. Jensen, Ph D., as well as five nieces and a nephew.
Memorial services Saturday, January 18, at 11:00 AM at the Banning Ward Chapel, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 6140 W. Wilson Street, Banning, California.
Arrangements were entrusted to Weaver Mortuary, Beaumont, California.
