

David McLean was born on November 15, 1931, in Millinocket, Maine to George and Grace McLean. David is survived by his wife Margaret Hisako McLean, their two daughters, Joyce McLean-Liepsch and her husband, Dieter of Germany and Diane Gaspard and her husband, Ken of New Hampshire; two granddaughters, Amanda and Lindsey Gaspard and his siblings, Hazel Thompson, Ellen Phillips, Jean Barrick and Lawrence McLean and numerous nieces and nephews.
David attended Stearns High School in Millinocket, Maine and was a graduate of Loma Linda University with a BS in Respiratory therapy and a Master's of Public Health. David McLean was one of Maine's youngest pilots, obtaining his license at the age of 15. He joined the U.S. Air force in 1949 and served for twenty years in Japan, Korea, Germany, France and various locations in the United States. David honorably retired in 1969 with the rank of Master Sergeant.
From 1978 until his retirement David was the clinical supervisor for Respiratory Home Care at Loma Linda University Medical Center. He was on the clinical faculty at Loma Linda University teaching respiratory therapists, nurses and home care specialists. David lectured for the Respiratory Care Society, the Veterans administration and the American Lung Association. He published numerous articles in nursing and respiratory care journals. David joined the heart surgery teams which traveled to Vietnam and Saudi Arabia to perform hundreds of open heart surgeries.
David was a member of the American Association of Respiratory Care and the California Society of Respiratory Care. He served on the board of directors, executive committee and professional advisory committee for the American Lung Association of San Bernardino County. He received numerous awards including the Parke-Davis Literacy Award presented by the American Respiratory Care foundation. David was a finalist in the Showcase of Excellence of the Foundation for Excellence in nursing. He was also a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Memorial service Thursday, October 17, 2013, at 10:30am, at Weaver Mortuary, 1177 Beaumont Avenue, Beaumont, California, followed by a small reception at Weaver Mortuary. Burial will follow at Riverside National Cemetery, staging area #4, 22495 Van Buren Blvd, Riverside, California, at 1:45pm, with military honors by the U.S. Air Force.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Braille Institute Library Services, 741 N. Vermont Avenue, Los Angeles, California 90029 or to the Stroke Recovery Center, 2800 East Alejo Road, Palm Springs, California 92262.
Arrangements were entrusted to Weaver Mortuary, Beaumont, California.
