David Walter Scholte was born July 24, 1946 in San Pedro, California. He was the only child of John and Dorothy Scholte. David grew up in Crestline, California and graduated from Rim of the World High School. He married Sandra Faye Standefer on November 30, 1968 in Burbank, California. David entered the U.S. Army and served as an active duty Specialist (Musician) with the 8th U.S. Army Band from February 1967 through February 1970, deploying to both Japan and Korea. David continued to serve in the Army Reserve until 1973.
David and Sandee's first son, Christian David, was born December 30, 1972 and Jon Erik was born November 29, 1976. David and Sandee raised their children in Lake Arrowhead and enjoyed many family activities together, including water skiing, snow skiing, sailing, fishing and camping. They spent a great deal of time with their lifelong friends at the river and in the sand dunes. After the boys were married, David and Sandee made visits to St. Martin, Mexico and many states across the United States. They thoroughly enjoyed time with their grandchildren, Alec, Caroline, Lane and Lacey. Sandee passed away in 2008. David retired from his career as an insurance adjuster a few years later. He filled his time traveling with friends and attending countless football, baseball and soccer games, as well as dance recitals.
David passed away Friday, July 17, 2015, following a lengthy battle with cancer. He is survived by his son Christian and daughter-in-law Shari, son Jon and daughter-in-law Katherine and four grandchildren. David will be remembered as an adventurer, a music lover, a loyal friend, a devoted father and loving grandfather. While we will miss his adventures here on earth, we know that, because of their faith, he and Sandee are together again.
