Happy birthday Daddy! My beloved Daddy, I miss you more than words could ever express. I love you so much and I hope you eat some green apples with lots of salt today and a big bowl of beans with onions & cornbread for dinner. I love and miss you dearly. May you enjoy your birthday in Heaven with your grandson Paul, my mom and the rest of the family who are residing in God's glory. Ken and I are thinking of moving to your birth place of Tennessee - I know you would worry if you were here. However, now you are free of all worries.. I love you Daddy and I always will

I was very honored to have Earl as my father-in-law. He accepted me into the family right away and took interest in my life such as my work and love for Notre Dame. He would always be anxious to talk to April and I everyday if he could. He loved his daughter very much and it showed in his concern for her well being. I have always respected him. He faced many challenges throughout his life but always seemed to not let it bother him. This was credited to his faith in the Lord which remained strong and kept him upbeat. I will miss the times of talking about Kentucky basketball games with him but will continue to follow the Wildcats knowing that he is watching. I know he is better off in heaven now and is out of suffering. Thank you so very much for taking care of us, Earl. May you rest in peace, I love you.

I'm left with my memories, which is wonderful.  I remember your dreams of going to heaven, and how much you were looking forward to it.  You would get  excited when you thought about it.  Now you have seen it, and all your loved ones.  I'm sure you are the happiest person ever.  You will be missed.

My Dearest Daddy.. How can words ever express how very much I miss him? If someone would have told me a year ago that I would lose him so quickly, I would never have believed it. Although we lived at a distance for most of my life we were never far apart at heart. My dad was one of the most generous and kind hearted people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing and I'm so very proud to have him as my dad. He loved God with all of his heart and the love of the Lord shined through in his giving nature, his laugh and the way he loved to give of himself in any way he could. The last months of his life have been a rough ride as the dementia took his ability to take care of himself, function, walk, and eventually his ability to speak. It broke my heart with each new stage of this debilitating disease because it always meant I was losing yet another piece of him. I can't begin to express how it has shredded my heart in a zillion pieces each time I lost yet another aspect of his personality. There have been countless sleepless nights filled with tears as I came to grasp that he would never again be the daddy I have loved all my life.. I can't begin to say how much this has hurt me at a level so deep that it is extremely hard to describe.. It was always my heart's wish to have him moved here to California so Ken and I worked very hard on achieving this in these last months. We worked diligently with the VA and Dept of Veteran's Affairs to have him transferred here. However, it seemed in the end it was not to be as my dad's decline took on a rapid pace just before we were able to have him moved here. My daddy dearly loved Southern California. He would often talk about his mountain climbing expeditions, riding his motorcycle or the palm trees he loved so much here. He had many fond memories of sunshine filled days and the happiness that came with his younger years spent here. He had the most remarkable memory I have ever seen; he literally had the ability to tell you what he paid for a set of tires in 1952.. LOL! How I miss him so dearly.. I can only say he will forever live in my heart and I know he is now in Heaven, young and free.. He is not suffering anymore and he can enjoy the golden days of his youthful times once again.. I prayed the night before he passed that the first person to greet him would be Paul (my son). He knew the story of Paul's death and although he never met him, I believe in Heaven he would know his grandson right away with no introductions necessary.. My wish is that he will fly with angels daily and smile knowing how much he is still dearly loved and missed greatly.. I love you Daddy.. April
