Ingrid Anita Munsterman was born in The Hague, The Netherlands, on December 10, 1957, to Dick and Hetty Doesburg. She was the middle of five children. She sadly left us unexpectedly on December 31, 2024, after a life lived in service and generosity. Known for her firm but fair hand, Ingrid was a beacon of light and hope to many during her more than four decades working in Colton Joint Unified School District. She touched many lives as a Teacher, Vice-Principal, Principal, Director, and Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources.
Ingrid grew up with her siblings on a farm in Chino and graduated a year early from Chino High School in 1975. She graduated with her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Cal State San Bernardino, back when it was Cal State College.
She was married to Patrick Munsterman and they had 25 happy years together before his sudden death in May of 2021. Engraved on his headstone is her favorite verse from 1 Corinthians 13: “love is patient, love is kind, it does not boast, it is not proud. It protects, trusts, hopes, perseveres. Love never fails…”
One month after Patrick died, Ingrid retired. She was so grief-stricken that she never fully enjoyed her retirement. But she tried and she found things to fill her time. She was a Volunteer Citizen Patrol for the Beaumont Police Department. On Mondays, she taught adults to read, something that one of her students said: “changed my life”. On Tuesdays and Saturdays, she sold things at a resale boutique in Grand Terrace. She helped feed the homeless at Carol’s Kitchen in Cabazon every Thursday. Days between, she made sure to enjoy retail therapy, often trying to find the perfect gift for a friend, co-worker, or one of their children or grandchildren.
She will always be remembered for her love languages: generosity and gift-giving.
The memorial service will be held at Grand Terrace High School on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 1 pm with a reception following.
