Jon attended Colorado Academy in middle and high school where the outstanding characters of the men and faculty had a lifelong positive impact on him. He later attended Highland Park High School and Evanston Township High School.
Jon loved the water. Water skiing, boating, sailing or anywhere near the water was where he enjoyed being. A boat ride on Lake Yellowstone in Yellowstone Park with family in summer 2019 remained one of his fondest memories. He also loved movies which lead to his collection of over 300 video recordings of the old classics which he never tired of and knew the scripts by heart.
Jon worked in Chicago as a community organizer where landlord/tenant issues and union organizing were some of his interests. He later worked with emotionally disturbed children, where he met his beloved Shelley and married in 1977.
In 1986, Jon and his wife Shelley moved to California. In the late 1980's and early 1990's, Jon, along with another, formed the Yucaipa Mobile Home Residents Assn (YMRA) where he helped organize all 41 mobilehome parks to set up a democratically run organization with an elected representative from each of the parks in Yucaipa. Mr. Daub served as president of the YMRA for several years where he worked tirelessly to help senior mobile home residents to use their organized voting power which was a main factor that lead to passage of a ballot initiative that lead to Yucaipa becoming a city in 1989. Later, Jon wrote much of the Initiative for a Mobile Home Rent Control Law, and lead the successful campaign to get enough votes to place it on the ballot and passed into law. The YMRA and Yucaipa's Mobile Home Rent Control Law continue today, helping low income seniors and families to have fair treatment, providing protection from high rent increases and loss of their homes.
Jonathan is survived by his wife, Shelley Daub; his sister-in-law Candace Hawley-Widmar (Jack), his sister-in-law Sue Widmar, his sister-in-law Debbie Murrin and his sister-in-law Jill Widmar; his niece Melissa Nelson (Derrick), his nephew Peter Sebastian and his nephew Daniel Sebastian. And great nieces and nephews, Mason, Camryn and Noah Sebastian; Corbin and Lacey Nelson.
Jonathan was preceded in death by his mother Ruth Daub.
