He was born on September 9th, 1980, in West Covina, California, but called Banning his home for the majority of his life.
Luke had a love for sports, but his enthusiasm was actually ignited by his competitiveness. He made sure he had fun in everything he chose to do, but he also made sure he was good at. He was a natural. He was athletic, so being good at sports (all sports) was natural for him. He was funny, so making people laugh was natural for him. He was sincere, so making people feel good just by being with him, came natural for him. We can’t forget that he was also a little goofy...we could even say a little bit crazy...so bringing the fun everywhere he went also came natural for him. During his youth Luke could be found in a karate dojo, on a baseball field, a basketball court, a football field, a bowling lane, or competitively swimming. He graduated from Banning High School in 1999, as nothing less than class president. Luke then proceeded to chase his passion for the culinary arts and graduated from the institute of Le Cordon Bleu.
Luke’s proudest accomplishment was becoming a father to Jacob Dean Johnston on May 11th, 2017. Luke’s remaining years would be spent trying to be the best father he could be. Jacob was everything to Luke. He was Luke’s daily motivation and his light in dark times. Jacob was his reason.
As an adult, Luke could be found attending Angels Baseball games, giving back to his community through cooking, teaching karate, and coaching little league baseball.
Luke was a father, son, grandson, nephew, cousin, friend, and brother to so many. It was his captivating personality and his warm spirit that drew people in and attracted the many friendships throughout his lifetime. Friendships that were filled with laughter and love as well as memories that will forever be cherished. Luke’s amazing smile will be missed. His infectious laughter will be missed, and the comfort found in his hugs will be missed.
Luke is survived by his mother Debbie Armstrong, father Dale Johnston, grandfather Carol (Red) Deaton, son Jacob Johnston, and countless other friends and family members all blessed to have known this charming soul.
Words cannot express the gratitude felt towards family, friends, and the community for their support, their prayers, and their donations. It is your generosity that has made it possible to give Luke the farewell he deserves.
