Madison Bewley Payne

Madison Bewley Payne passed away June 3, 2014 in Yucaipa, California. He was born at Riverside Community Hospital, Riverside, California October 13, 1922, to Jesse Payne, Sr and Ida Belle Payne. Madison was raised on the family dairy farm in Coachella. Madison graduated from CVUHS in 1940. He worked at the dairy until joining the United States Marine Corps in 1944. Madison served as a BAR man in the South Pacific and spent a year after the war in the occupation forces in Japan. After his discharge in 1946, he attended a California trade school and became a surveyor. Madison surveyed over much of Southern California, but mostly in the Orange County area.

Madison met his wife Florence in 1948 in Indio, California and they were married in 1950. They moved to Orange County along with Florence's son, Van Earl Mellor. They lived in Orange County mostly but also lived in Escondido, California.

After retiring from the surveying business as a member of the Operating Engineers, Madison and Florence moved to Yucaipa, California for many years and then to the Highland Springs Country Club, Cherry Valley, California in the mid 1990's.

Madison was preceded in death by his wife, Florence in October 2008, his oldest brother William at age 2, brothers Jesse and John, nephews William Claire, Chris Peebler and Florence's son Van Earl. Madison is survived by his Godson Craig James, nephews Dean & J.B. Payne, Scott Peebler and Bob & Todd Payne, nieces Jan & Jana, his sister Harriet Peebler and brother-in-law Gerald.

Madison was a generous and kind man, a good neighbor and a proud United States Marine!

Funeral service Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at 11:00am at Weaver Mortuary, 1177 Beaumont Avenue, Beaumont, California. Interment will be Thursday, June 12, 2014, at 1:00pm at Olive Lawn Memorial Park, 13926 LaMirada Blvd, LaMirada, California. Military Honors will be provided by the United States Marine Corps.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements were entrusted to Weaver Mortuary, Beaumont, California.
