Margaret "Anne" Pickett

1924-2014

Anne Pickett passed away quietly at her home in Cherry Valley, CA on May 18, 2014. She was 90 years old. She had been suffering with Parkinson's disease for over 20 years. She is preceded in death by her brother, Charles S. Hill Jr. Anne is survived by her husband of 61 years, Ralph D. (Mike) Pickett, her two daughters, Mary Anne Pickett (husband Paul Sanders), Margaret Pickett, and her sister, Mary Dunn. She has one grandson, Douglas Wurtzel, who is a petty officer in the United States Navy, and nieces and nephews in the Los Angeles area, and in the state of Oregon.

Born and raised in Banning, California, Anne graduated from Banning High School and went on to attend the University of Redlands, where she earned her Bachelor's degree, Teaching Credential, and Master's degree. She taught elementary school in Southern California locations before marrying in 1952. She and her husband raised their daughters in Banning, and later in Cherry Valley, California.

Anne was in the education field for over 40 years. She was an elementary school teacher, principal and superintendent of schools. She helped to start the Headstart preschool program in Banning, CA, went on to teach at Wellwood School in Beaumont, become Projects Coordinator for the Beaumont Unified School District, then principal of Wellwood and Palm Schools in Beaumont. She loved Beaumont schools and the families they served. She retired in 1988 from Beaumont Unified School District after serving as superintendent of schools for the district.

Anne loved music and was known for her beautiful singing voice and musical ability. She sang and played the piano for fun, at school and at home, sang in the church choir at Banning Methodist Church for years, and enjoyed taking voice lessons.She loved the beach, shopping and reading.

Funeral services for Anne will be held on Sunday, May 25 at 2:00pm at Weaver Mortuary Chapel in Beaumont, Ca. Reverend Carrie Masters from the Center for Spiritual Living in Beaumont, Ca. will be officiating. Private graveside services to follow at a later date.
