Maria was wonderfully devoted to her 4 children:
Jorge, Adriana, Claudia, and Mariana.
She was known affectionately as “Grandmita” to:
Maribel, Rogelio, Jessica, Benjamin, Alex, Cassandra, Lizalea and Andres.
Grandmita was a loving Great-Grandmother to:
Eric, Kira, Audrey, Ashlin, Teague, Delysia, Jax and Chase.
She also leaves behind 12 brothers and sisters, extended family, and friends.
Born on January 20th 1942, Grandmita was raised in Mexico. She completed school and became an accountant before she became a small business owner of a printing shop ‘Etiquetas Mexico’. In 1981, Grandmita made the brave decision to move to the United States with her four children on her own.
In the U.S. she struggled and persevered to give her kids a better life with the support of her sister Tere and brother Manuel & their families.
She worked for the missionaries in West LA as a cook & housekeeper while also door to door sales of water filters with her kids in tow. She had a variety of jobs such as Handleman Company, Pic-N-Save and Big Lots. Grandmita retired in 2007 and helped raise some of her grandchildren through the years.
Grandmita realized her dream of Home Ownership in 1994. Throughout her life she lived with her children and grandchildren in Rowland Heights, Beaumont, Covina, and Hemet.
She loved Monster Truck shows, crocheting, puzzles, Legos, gardening, flowers, plants, and birds. At one point she had over 150 plants in pots! Most of all, she was a big Los Angeles Dodgers fan – if she wasn’t at the game, she was front row in the living room keeping score.
Grandmita lived a long, beautiful life filled with lots of love. She touched many lives, so much so that in her last moments she wasn’t just surrounded by family but also those that will always see her as a second mom even though our family has changed through the years. She was a strong, determined and fiercely independent woman. We will miss her every day.
