Barbara Ellen Peters

Barbara Ellen (Dickens) Peters, 98 of Beckley formerly of Naoma passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2016 after a long illness. She was born June 25, 1917 at Pine Knob, WV. She was a member of Naoma Freewill Baptist Church and attended Mt. Tabor Baptist Church and Bradley Freewill Baptist Church after moving to Beckley. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Troy Peters; her parents, Pete Dickens and Dessie Dickens Cooper; daughter, Maxine Peters Sikes; grandson, Seth Bell; 4 brothers, Roy, Clyde, Pete Jr. and Vibert Dickens; 2 sisters, Bertie and Agnes Dickens; five sister-in-laws. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Charlotte Peters Elkins and husband, Bob; two sons, Eugene Peters and wife, Polly and Gary Peters and wife, Dovie all of Beckley; brothers, Denny Dickens and wife Clara of Wisconsin and Billy Dickens of Pine Knob. She left 11 beloved grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 2 step great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and many friends. The family wishes to thank her dear caregivers Betty Law and Gwendolyn Bias whom she considered friends. Services will be held at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley at 1:00 PM on Friday, May 13, 2016 with nephew Pastor Wayne Peters and Pastor Michael King officiating the celebration of her precious life. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Friends may gather with the family Thursday from 6 – 8 PM at the funeral home. The family wishes to thank the Bowers Hospice House for their kindness and compassion, Raleigh General Hospital, Appalachian Regional Hospital and Harper Mills for all the care and treatment she received while there.
