Catherine Ann Boyd

Cathy Ann Boyd, 63, of Scarbro, passed away Saturday, August 09, 2014.

Born January 22, 1951 in Beckley to Edward E. Boyd and the late Catherine Welsh Beckingham Boyd.

Cathy loved collecting antiques, gardening, and horses. She was a 1969 Mount Hope High School graduate and earned her Nursing Degree from WVU Tech. Cathy has been a nurse for 44 years and a Nursing Supervisor at Raleigh General Hospital for more than 15 years. She attended the Dothan Community Church.

In addition to her mother, Cathy was preceded in death by her grandparents, Catherine and George Beckingham and Pink and Ira Boyd.

Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband, Neal A. Portzen of Scarbro; children, Dr. Chris Grose and wife, Debbie of Oak Hill, Melissa Goodson and husband, John of Crab Orchard, Dr. Mathew Grose and wife, Kasie of Cross Lanes; Micky Portzen and wife, Jessica, Chicago, IL, Melanie Garrity and husband, Chris of Chicago, IL; grandchildren, Atticus and Cyrus Goodson, Owen Grose, Mahkai Grose and Shyloh Grose, Weylin Portzen, Lilly Portzen and Jax Garrity; brothers and sister, George Boyd and wife, Joan of Lexington, NC, Jane Meadows and husband, Jimmy of Maple Fork, and Scott Boyd and wife, Licha of Maple Fork; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, extended family and friends.

Services to celebrate the life of Catherine “Cathy” A. Boyd will be held 8:00PM Thursday, August 14, 2014 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley with Rev. Darrell Fuller officiating.

Friends may gather with the family from 2:00PM until time of the service Thursday at the funeral home.
