Danny was born September 29, 1940, in Winifrede, WV, to the late William and Ethel Lawrence.
He spent most of his childhood in Clear Creek, WV, where he attended Clear Fork High School. Although he may not have been the greatest athlete, he enjoyed playing football and basketball for the Panthers.
On September 16, 1961, he married Doris Tyree of Maple Fork. Danny worked his way from stockboy to store manager at G.C. Murphy’s Company, where he was employed for 24 years. His profession took him, his wife, and their three children to many locations such as Atlanta, San Antonio, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Buffalo. Eventually, he returned to his home state to work at the store in Hinton. Later, he worked as a warehouse manager for Fairchild International, Marathon Industries, and Superior Highwall Miners until his retirement.
After transferring to West Virginia, he resided in White Oak, eventually returning to live in his childhood home in Clear Creek for 21 years. In 2018, Danny and Doris moved to Princeton.
Danny was a man of God, and it was his calling and greatest pleasure to share his testimony of God’s healing and love to everyone he met. Danny was a man who, although small in stature, was mighty in faith. He attended and was very active at Word of Faith Assembly and Sycamore Free Pentecostal Church.
Those who knew Danny were drawn to his selflessness, dry humor, and sweet smile.
He was a true role model who set a great example of an honest, caring, hard-working person.
In his later years, Danny became a #1 fan and unofficial statistician of the Concord University Women’s Basketball Team.
In addition to his parents, he said he was looking forward to reuniting with his sister, Nancy Treadway, and his grandparents.
He will be forever missed by his wife, Doris; his children Danny (Rhonda) Lawrence, Vickie (Kenny) Osborne, and Billy (Elizabeth) Lawrence; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Billy Jack Lawrence and Rev. Jerry Lawrence; as well as a multitude of other family and friends.
Pallbearers will be his six grandchildren: John Embrescia, Michael Embrescia, Kristen Osborne, Caitlin Lawrence (honorary), Katie Lawrence, and Anthony Lawrence.
His services will be held on Thursday, January 26, 2023 at 1PM with Reverends Jerry Lawrence and Jerry Tyree. The family will begin receiving visitors from 11 AM until the time of the service. The entombment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Blue Ridge Funeral Home 5251 Robert C. Byrd Drive, Beckley is honored to be serving the Lawrence family.
