While many in the community knew her for the hard work and amazing food it took to run her restaurant, more knew her simply for her kind spirit, love for people, and most importantly her love for the Lord. From the simple pleasure of listening to gospel to teaching Sunday school at Cranberry Baptist Church for many years, she dedicated her life to service. Eleanor drew much of her strength and joy from her service to the Lord, and even in her final days she attended service and helped to minister those around her. She truly had a prayer in her heart for everyone she came across.
Waiting to walk her into the pearly gates are her parents James Robert and Glenna Barley; first husband and father of her children Ernest Delano Shelton; second husband Cullen Williams; sons Ernie Shelton and Danny Shelton; brother James “Jimmy” Barley; sister Ethel Maynor; sisters-in-law Verona Barley and Gloria Barley; and brother-in-law Wilbur “Bill” Knight.
Those left to cherish her memory are her brothers Johnny Barley (Sharon); Ernest “Duke” Barley (Donna); sister Evelyna “Hitty” Knight; daughter Drema Kay Buckland (Jeff); daughter-in-law Fran Shelton; grandchildren Christopher Drennen, Mark Drennen, Tyler Shelton (Angie); Laura Kay Russell (Brandon); and great-grandchildren Owen Shelton, Haley Drennen, and Cole Russell.
Per her wishes she will be cremated before being committed to the Earth. Friends and family are invited to a Committal Service which will be held 2pm Thursday September 18th 2025 at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Beckley, WV.
