Ernest Epling

Ernie was born July 10th, 1951, in Cool Ridge, WV; he was the son of the late Carl Lafayette Epling and the late Bernice Ella Lilly Epling Maynard. Ernie was of the Baptist faith and a hard worker—a welder, fabricator, and true ‘Jack of All Trades’ he retired from the Raleigh Co. School Board after 31 years working in maintenance. In his free time he loved being outdoors, hunting, fishing, and camping. He did not know a stranger and would talk to anyone that would listen, especially to his “fractured fairytales”.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his devoted wife of 53 years, Martha Lee O’Brien Epling, whom he loved to the end; as well as several siblings, nieces and nephews.

He is survived by his only son Brandon Elliot Epling of Cool Ridge, WV; two sisters; extended family and loved ones.

Ernie will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens of Beckley, WV after a graveside service on Monday April 13th, 2026 at 1pm. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made in his memory to United Way of Southern WV on their website UnitedWaySWV.org or by visiting 110 Croft St. Beckley WV 25801.
