“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.”
Psalm 116:15
Ethel Mae Hylton Wills, 91, was welcomed into heaven and the loving arms of her Savior on Sunday, April 25, 2021. She was born on April 8, 1930 in Garden City, VA. Her parents were Margaret Nipper and Charles Hylton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Wills, Sr., daughters-in-law, Vicky Wills and Carrie Wills, grandson, Kevin Wills, and great-grandson, Troy Mitchem.
Like many women of her generation, Ethel was a gentle and kind soul with a backbone of steel. After the unexpected death of her husband, she raised her children on her own while working two jobs. She never complained but went about taking care of her family and friends with determination and grace. Besides her family, her greatest joy was going to church and worshipping the Lord. Ethel practiced a quiet faith that spoke loudly to those around her. Her faithfulness and steadfast devotion to her Savior through good times and bad will always serve as a testament to the life she led.
Those left to grieve her absence and cherish her memory are a son, Fred Wills, Jr., a daughter, Jacqueline Milam, a daughter, Ceretha Green and husband Jonathan, a son, Keith Wills, a son, John Wills and companion Debbie Thompson, a daughter, Joyce Akers and husband James, and a daughter, Debbie McGraw and husband Kevin. Ethel also leaves behind grandchildren, Kelli Stump, Kristopher Akers, Michelle Walker, Amanda Green, Jennifer Epperley, Andrew McKinney, and Cory Wills, as well as several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank everyone they interacted with at The Bowers Hospice House for their support throughout this experience. They would like to recognize all of Ethel’s nurses who regularly attended to her, and especially the nurses who attended to her and the family during her last days. Their professionalism and kindness were a true blessing, and we thank every single one of them from the bottom of our hearts.
The family would also like to thank Kristen McKinney for her care of Ethel. Her help and support were truly appreciated.
A private service for the family will be held at Blue Ridge Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 beginning at 11:00 AM.
Following the services Ethel will be laid to rest at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
