Eugene O'Neal

Eugene O’Neal, 86, of Fairmont, WV formerly of Beckley started living with the Lord on Tuesday, September 24, 2019. Eugene was born December 17, 1932 in Butler, Tennessee son of the late Frank and Zola O’Neal. He attended Mullens High School and later earned his GED while serving his country. He retired from Pittson Coal after ten years of service, but had been employed with Consol operation at Itmann’s complex and US Steel in Pineville totaling 37 years with the UMWA mining industry while working a farm on the side for 29 years successfully. He was an avid football fan of the Green Bay Packers and a Nascar enthusiast. Also rooting for his home state Vols and WVU mountaineers.

Gene is survived by his son Bruce (Cristal) of Fairmont and daughter Zoanne Cochran (Tommy) of Beckley. Also surviving are brothers Sam (Charlene) of Corinne, Dave (Rose) of Mullens, and a sister Donna Cayton (Wayne) of Parkersburg. He is survived by four grandchildren Kyleigh McAllister (Taylor) of Corning, NY, Seth O‘Neal (Hayley) of Fairmont, Kaitlinn O’Neal of Fairmont, and Deanna Cochran of Beckley. He loved his two great grandchildren Jasper McAllister and his little buddy Lyla Jene. He is also survived by a very special Aunt Mary Forbes of Elizabethton, TN.

Preceding him in death along with his parents are siblings Herb O’Neal, Carol Ashley, and Gracie Stone; brother-in-law Skip Ashley, and sisters-in-law Darce O’Neal and Jean O’Neal and mother-in-law Bessie Fuqua.

Funeral service will be at Blue Ridge Funeral Home on Friday September 27, 2019 at 11 am.

Friends may gather with the family from 10 – 11am.
