Flossie Harvey

Mrs. Flossie Estel Childs Harvey, age 99, of Raleigh, West Virginia, passed away on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, West Virginia. A service to celebrate her life will be held on Friday, October 13, 2023, at 1PM with Pastor Rodney Allen officiating at Blue Ridge Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens with pallbearers being grandsons and great grandsons; Mark Lynch, Jeremy Lynch, Jordan Lynch, Corey Lynch, Jacob Lucas, and Kaden Tilley. Honorary pallbearer will be Chris Lynch.

Flossie was born January 6, 1924, at Jumping Branch, Summers County, West Virginia, She was the daughter of the late Gale Earl Childs and Mary Cordelia Ingle Childs. Also preceding her in death was her loving husband, Virgil Ray Harvey; infant son, Tommy Lee Harvey; daughter, Shiela Rae Harvey; and grandson, Brian Ray French.

Flossie was a homemaker and a member of Memorial Baptist Church of Beckley, where she sang in the choir and also participated in the Living Christmas Tree performances. She enjoyed making quilts, gardening and canning. Her home was filled with the laughter of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and the smells of homemade biscuits and fried apple pies.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Dixie Ann Harris of Midlothian, Virginia; her daughter Peggy Tucker of Daniels, West Virginia; and her son, Jimmy D. Harvey (Teresa) of Crab Orchard, West Virginia; six grandchildren, Mark Lynch (companion Missy) of Raleigh, West Virginia; Telena Lucas (Freddie) of Raleigh, West Virginia; Chris Lynch of Daniels, West Virginia; Lydia Lynn Lynch (companion Daniel) of Salina, Oklahoma; Cindy Harris of Richmond, Virginia; and Jamie Thornton of Raleigh, West Virginia. She is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

The family will begin receiving visitors at 12 PM until the time of the service at 1PM on Friday, October 13, 2023 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home.
