Born September 23, 1957 in Beckley; he was a son of the late Harvey and Annie Mae Rakes.
Lonnie loved hunting, fishing, riding his dirt bike, shooting his guns, spending time with his grandchildren and family, and going to church.
Lonnie never met a stranger. He was a member of Crab Orchard Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Tony Murdock and Sherman Diehl.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 45 years, Tami Murdock Rakes of Sophia; two sons, Lawrence "LII" Rakes and wife, Ashley of Beckley and Anthony "Chase" Rakes of Sophia; two grandchildren, Kayden Kirby and Brantlee Rakes of Beckley; a sister, Lana Diehl of Sophia; a brother, Larry Rakes and wife, Barbara of Sophia; several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
A Memorial Service to celebrate the life of Lawrence "Lonnie" Richard Rakes will be held 5:00PM Saturday, January 17, 2026, at Crab Orchard Baptist Church with Pastor David Bush officiating.
