She was born November 4th, 1935 at the home of her late grandparents Leonard and Josie (Mommy and Poppy) (Calloway) Cook’s home in Massey Branch, WV.
She was the eldest of 8 children born to the late Delmer and Lou Verna (Cook) Honaker. Preceding her in death are her husband, Billy Joe; brothers, Vernon Dale (Bimbo) Sparky; and sister, Mary Honaker; sisters-in-law, Agnes Honaker and Kathleen Farley; brothers-in-law, Jimmy David (Haze) Lucas, Homer and Page Farley; nephew, Bernie Edward Honaker; niece, Tracey Lee McCauley; step granddaughter, Valerie Pack and former sister-in-law, Rose Conkle.
Survivors include her children, Toni (Randy) Pack of Waynesboro, GA, Terri Farley of Arnett, WV, Teddy (Annetta) Farley of Weston, WV and Traci (John) L. Lewis, Jr. of Helen, WV; grandchildren, Billy Joe “BJ” (Stephani) Farley, Michelle (Derrick) Hefner of Weston, WV, Trey (Megan) Lewis of Rock Creek, OH, Erin (Joshua) Kamits of Helen, WV, Aaron Pack of Beckley, WV, and her many precious great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are brothers, Paul Honaker of Angola, IN, Damon (Margaret) Honaker of Chicago, IL, and Bill Honaker of Arnett, WV; sister, Reba Lucas of Masontown, WV; sister-in-law, Shelby Jean (Pete) Fitzhugh of Martinsburg, WV, and many nieces and nephews.
Norma was of the Baptist faith and prayed daily for her family and friends. Her early life was spent in Arnett, WV, where she had special memories of her family / friends, Jeanette Skeens, Marie Canaday and Charles Cook.
Work would take her and husband Bill to different places. They lived in Seat Pleasant, MD, Washington, DC, and Cleveland, OH before returning to West Virginia. She worked for Geico and American Surety Insurances in Washington, DC, and drove a truck for Richmond Cleaners (Beckley, WV) for 18 years.
She sold Avon, Moonshine, chestnuts, and mowed grass all while raising 4 kids born 1958-1962. She was a hardworking woman whose purpose in life from early on was to provide for her children, pay bills, and help others when she could. She always put others before herself. She was a fighter, survivor and was admired by all.
Norma loved attending the annual Cook reunion to reminisce with her relatives. She was proud to be part of a family of 91 grandchildren. She also loved family gatherings at her home in Arnett where she wanted everyone to come and eat, play horseshoes, cards and enjoy each other’s company. She had vacationed on beaches form Maryland to Florida. She loved Tennessee, Amish Country and simple pleasures like attending the WV State Fair.
Funeral Services will be Monday, June 7th at 1pm at Blue Ridge Funeral Home with the Rev. Danny Lusk officiating. Music will be provided by Linda Lusk and songs from Vanessa Turner, Lita Ryan and Angela Dunlap. Graveside song provided by Michelle Hefner.
Friends may call from 11am until time of service. Family will serve as pallbearers. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in the Garden of Prayer at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity.
