Richard Haven Thompson Sr.

Richard (Jack Rabbit) Thompson, Sr. of Piney View passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2016. Born October 28, 1937, he was the son of the late Minyard and Nora Sheets Thompson. Richard lived in Piney View for 50 years and was originally from Fayette County. He enjoyed being outside and staying busy. He was an avid hunter. Richard was a long term member of the UMWA and CCR&G Hunting Club. He worked till the day he died. Richard is preceded in death by his 1st wife and the mother of his children, Virginia Gill Thompson; his 2nd wife, Jennie Gaddis; brothers, Paul “Rebel” Thompson and Russell Thompson; Beulah Thompson, Freida Thompson. Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Richard Thompson, Jr of Concord, NC and Tammy Collins of Piney View, WV; step-daughters, Charlotte Simms of Hickory, NC, Rebecca Lipford of Mocksville, NC; 3 grandchildren, Mark, Buster and Myra; 3 step-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, October 20, 2016 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Friends may gather with the family Thursday from 12 – 1 at the funeral home.
