Robert Paul Jarrell, 71, of Artie, WV went to be home with the Lord on February 20, 2016. He was the son of the late Paul Edwin and Mary Edith Jarrell and was born on December 13, 1944 at their home in Artie, WV. He graduated Clear Fork High School in 1962. After graduation, he spent 4 years in the Navy receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal upon honorable discharge. A life-long learner, he began taking college classes while he was stationed in Adak, Alaska. He obtained a Bachelor’s Degree from WV State College, worked towards a Master’s Degree from Marshall and also completed Education classes at WV Tech. Self-employed, most of his career was in building construction. He worked on businesses and homes all over WV, MI, VA and OH most notably on the framing and drywall in the Tamarack in Beckley, WV and all the remodeling of the Artie Museum. He took great pride in his work and was known for his outstanding craftsmanship. He also spent time educating at the Raleigh County Vocational School teaching building construction. His hobbies included a love of reading, archeology, fossil hunting, watching basketball and football and history. Very few mornings went by without him completing the daily crossword, sudoku and cryptoquote puzzles in the paper always in pen and he was impossible to beat in Trivial Pursuit. He enjoyed his morning coffee at Butches store with his local friends. He believed priority should be God, family and then country. Those left surviving to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of 47 years Martha Lee (Stover), his son Robert Paul Jarrell, Jr. of Glen Morgan, WV, his daughter Jennifer LeeAnn and her husband Roger Honaker of Disputanta, VA. Also surviving are his grandsons Jacob and Chase Honaker whom he adored, his sister Lois Anita Evans, brother-in-law Kenneth Treadway of Beckley, WV, his brother David Jarrell and his wife Janet of Waterford, MI, sister-in-law Betty Phillips and her husband Bruce of Roscommon, MI and sister-in-law Jean Stover of Cross Lanes, WV, nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends. His generous spirit and infectious laughter will be missed by all. We have peace knowing to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. There are not enough words to thank all the friends and family who have done acts of kindness for us over these last few months. We appreciate and love you all. Sail on sailor, sail on.
