

SHELBY GLENDON TOLLIVER Shebly Glendon Tolliver, 89, of Grandview, passed away surrounded by his loving family holding his grandson’s hand on Sunday, April 19, 2015. Born October 4, 1925 at New Richmond; he was the son of the late Vaden and Lilly Canada Tolliver. Shelby loved gardening and helping his neighbors prepare their gardens, fishing, hunting, and the outdoors; he loved helping someone else. He served his country proudly in the United States Navy during WWII from 1943-1946. Shelby was a Coal Mine Superintendent at mines throughout the region in Raleigh, Mercer, Wyoming, and McDowell counties; a Shriner and a member of the Elks in Princeton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Larry Shelby Tolliver and a sister, Irene Saltsman. Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 67 years, Florence Tolliver; a son, Ronald Dale Tolliver and wife, Sharon of Pittsburgh, PA; daughter, Shelia Crawford and husband, Dennis of Williamsburg, VA; four grandchildren, Sonya Bails and husband, Danny of Pittsburgh, PA, Cameron Crawford of Asheville, NC, Emily Crawford of Williamsburg, VA, and Daniel Tolliver and wife, Kim of Beckley; great-grandson, Tanner Bails; sister, Leatrice Wells of FL; daughter-in-law, Josephine Tolliver of Beckley; friend, Lynwood Frank “Weed Hopper” of Beckley; extended family and friends, including his faithful dog, Nickie. Services to celebrate the life of Shelby Glendon Tolliver will be held 11:00AM Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home with Pastor Vernon Sears officiating. Following the services Shelby will be laid to rest at Roselawn Memorial Cemetery, Princeton. Family and friends will be serving as pallbearers. Friends may gather with the family from 6:00PM until 8:00PM Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Bowers Hospice House, 454 Cranberry Drive, Beckley WV 25801 in Shelby’s honor.
