Shirley A. Stapleton

Shirley was born on October 21, 1941, to the late McKinley and Okey Hopson in Iaeger, West Virginia. Shirley spent most of her life working in retail, where she formed many friendships with those she encountered.

Beyond her warm smile and outgoing nature, Shirley was a deeply creative soul. She expressed her love through her hands—sewing and crocheting heartfelt gifts for her family, friends, and even strangers. Each stitch carried care, compassion, and a piece of her generous spirit. Whether it was a handmade blanket for a new baby or a warm hat for someone in need, Shirley’s creations brought comfort and joy to many.

Left to cherish her memory are her five children: Dennis “Doober” Stapleton (Cheryl), Denise Carico (Terry), Chris Shepherd (Lee), Christopher (CD) Stapleton (Terri), and Andrew Stapleton (Tracy); her grandchildren; her great-grandchildren; and her sister, Sheila Mandeville.

Friends may visit the family Thursday, May 15, 2025 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 5251 Robert C Byrd Drive, Beckley, WV from 1pm to 2pm, with the service beginning at 2pm. Services will be officiated by family friend and minister Russ Jordan. Shirley’s final earthly resting place will be Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers include Joshua Shepherd, Kyle Shepherd, Lee Shepherd, Caleb Wills, Logan Addair and Tony Tommasecchia.

In lieu of flowers, please honor Shirley’s memory with donations to Hospice of Southern West Virginia.
