Deborah A. Spilman, life of the party, accessory queen and lover of all things purple, died on Tuesday, February 6. She fought her daring battle with cancer for two years and stayed strong until the very end.
Deb was born on December 7, 1962 to Edward Francis Benecewicz and Anna Mae Staeheli, and she remained a Baltimore area resident throughout her life. She married her main squeeze Jeffrey Spilman 35 years ago, with whom she had one daughter and permanent girls’ day companion, Kelsie Spilman. She taught them the value of taking fashion cues from no one and just to be thankful, all while being the solid family rock.
Those who were touched by Debbie’s presence remember her as a steady mentor, a joyous soul and an all-around badass woman. As a hard-working professional, her claim to fame was having a license to sell insurance in all 50 states.
Debbie is survived by her daughter, husband, her two brothers, two sisters, many nieces and nephews and a plethora of friends. She was preceded in death by her mother Anna Mae.
Visitation will be Sunday, February 11, at 12pm at the Schimunek Funeral Home in Bel Air, MD followed by a short service at 2p. A celebration of life will follow at 510 Johnny’s in Bel Air at 3p. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to The Lung Cancer Research Foundation or St. Jude.
