Born on July 9, 1943, in Baltimore, Maryland, Jackie grew up in Long Green and attended
Carroll Manor Elementary School before graduating from Parkville High School. She went
on to build a diverse and fulfilling career in administrative roles. Her early professional
years were spent as a secretary at Youth's Benefit Elementary School in Fallston. She later
became the secretary to the Dean of Students at Goucher College in Towson before
transitioning to public affairs at Sheppard Pratt Hospital, also in Towson. Jackie concluded
her career as an event coordinator on a national level, a role that allowed her to showcase
her organizational skills and passion for bringing people together.
Jackie is survived by her beloved husband Gilbert, her daughter Jennifer, and her son-in-law
Todd. She and Gilbert were married for nearly 59 years. Her family was the center of her
world, and she embraced her role with unwavering love, dedication and warmth. She was
preceded in death by her parents, Edward Elmer Schmidt and Della Evelyn Pruitt Schmidt.
Beyond her professional life, Jackie had many passions that brought her joy. She was an
avid reader with a deep appreciation for music, theater, Broadway productions, and
movies. Her creativity was evident in her joy of sewing and craft work, hobbies she pursued
with enthusiasm. Some of her fondest memories were made during family weekends on
the Chesapeake Bay, where she enjoyed boating, fishing, and crabbing around St.
Michaels.
Jackie also had a strong commitment to serving her community. She dedicated many years
as the chair of the Towson Fourth of July parade and contributed her time to various
committees at St. Joseph's Hospital in Towson. Those who knew Jackie would describe her
as strong, loyal, supportive, passionate, and incredibly funny—a friend who could always
be counted on for kindness and laughter.
In honor of Jackie's wishes, a celebration of life will be held on March 22, 2025, from 11:00
AM to 3:00 PM at Long Green Volunteer Fire Company, located at 4506 Long Green Road in
Glen Arm, Maryland. The gathering will feature music, dancing, and smiles—just as she
wanted. A light lunch with refreshments will be provided, along with an opportunity for
those who wish to share their stories and memories of Jackie.
Jackie’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her. May the joy she brought to
others continue to shine through the lives she touched.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations in Jackie’s name be made to
