To The Phelps Family,  I am so sorry to hear of John's passing.  I knew John as a child of seven or eight years old.  My mother (Grace Langhirt) was John's mother's aunt and godmother.  Johnny (as we called him) and I were cousins and had  such great fun together.  We lost touch at the age of about 12 years old.  Wishing you comfort and peace in this time of sadness.  My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Since I live so far away sadly I didn't get to be around my Uncle John but my mom always told me stories about her big brother. She said he would always take her on rides in his car when she was little and he was always there when she really needed someone. Although I am so far I still know what a wonderful man he was to all those around him. 
We wanted to send our condolences to the family, Aunt Carole, Shelly, and Craig may you be carried at this time.

MY DEEPEST SYMPATHY.  I KNEW JOHNNY AS A KID.  WE GREW UP IN THE SAME NEIGHBORHOOD AND HE HUNG AROUND WITH MY SISTER JOANNE, JOYCE, JOANNE DIZE AND QUITE A BIT OF OTHERS.  HE WAS ALWAYS THE LIFE OF THE PARTY AND ALOT OF FUN.  I KNOW HE WILL BE DEEPLY MISSED IN YOUR FAMILY.  I JUST WISH THE OLD FRIENDS HAS KEPT CLOSER CONTACT THRU THE YEARS. We are thinking of the Phelps family and talking about memories of Mr. John-- playing cards, going out to eat at the Red Fox, dinners at Pierce's Plantation, cheering on Michele and Craig at their soccer games, how he mowed the lawn so meticulously.... how he loved to go camping, his boisterous laugh.  He loved life.  He loved his family.

Our condolences to the Phelps Family for the loss of their family patriarch. I had the pleasure of working with John many years ago when we were both much younger at a place once called Westinghouse. John established goals for what he wanted to accomplish and worked hard to achieve these goals. John Phelps adored his wife Carole and would speak endlessly of his young family. John has gone to a higher place and because of his love and his committment to family and friends, he will be truly missed - but never forgotten...

To the Phelps Family ~ I am very saddened by your loss. "John-John" as I called your Dad was such a kind and caring man, who loved his family, was a good friend and a pleasure to work with, so many memories of those days at -W-. I still remember him driving me to work for months when I was pregnant with my 1st son Kevin who is now a soph at Penn State. John was truly a caring and hard-working individual. My big brother John was an amazing person. Even going through the lung transplant and recovery process over this past year didn't change my brother's fortitude and strength of character. He was #4 in our family of 6 kids, but he was always #1 with me. John was a born leader and a true family man; before he got married he often took his younger siblings on his dates, as well as to other places we enjoyed like camping, bowling and ice skaking.  There are lots of things I would not have had the opportunity to enjoy without him. John was always there for me; a loyal friend, he always gave his full attention and listened when you needed an ear, and he offered help whenever there was a problem; John was a great encourager, he wanted others to achieve their full potential. His nieces & nephew in California (Andrea, Alison, & Matt) all hold fond memories of him and thank God they were able to meet him, that he took time out to spend with them.  My husband Wayne & I send our prayers to his wife Carole, & family Shelly, Craig, Molly, Jay and  Caroline that they will continue to receive loving support and comfort from God in the upcoming weeks.  My brother John made the world a better place; I am sad and I miss him.  Little Sister Holly

My heart goes out to all the family on the loss of dear Uncle John!! Uncle John was a wonderful man that will be missed by many. Sorry to hear about John.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to you.  It is hard to believe that he is gone, I know he had been through a lot but he is now in a better place.  He will always be with you and looking down on you and the family.  I know he will be missed.

I had the pleasure of working with John for many years at Westinghouse Defense at the Hunt Valley site & continuing at the BWI facility.  Among other responsible Management positions he was the Field Engineering & Service Dept. Manager of Compensation.
John was well liked & respected by many.  He was always friendly & cheerful.
