Carolyn ‘Carol’ Sue Baker (Curtis), age 65, of Belton, MO passed away July 3, 2018 after a long term illness. Carol was born February 1, 1953 in Kansas City, MO to Loren Duane Curtis and Ruthie Mae Curtis (Givens). Her best childhood friends from high school, Marva May and Kenny Winkenhofer, got bounced around a lot between the KC and Independence schools. She attended Center Elementary, Center North Jr High and graduated from William Chrisman High School.
Her first job was actually as a car hop at Mugs Up in Kansas City, then later worked for Starlight Theater painting seats and doing odd jobs, which allowed her to meet several movie stars of the time. She lastly served for 36 years at the IRS attained multiple awards for her years of service, quality expectations, completed Instructor Training and several seasons of tutelage to new hires, held several positions during her tenure, the writing of crucial job aids and teaching aids.
Carol married once, to Richard ‘Dickie’ Baker, then good judgment kicked back in and she got a divorce after six years.
She loved reading, crochet, plastic canvas, attempted knitting, playing Sudoku, online solitaire, number searches, baking, watching golf (Phil Mickelson), HGTV (Barn Wood Builders, Flip n Move, Flea Market Flip), trying new restaurants, poetry/song verses, also loved Musicals and we could count her as an amateur photography for the amount of pictures she took of family and wildlife.
She gave a helping hand in raising most of the kids in the family, seeing them grow up into decent people. And was an unintentional role model for a lot of the younger generation.
Her disappointments were never getting to make the trip to Colorado to see family or Nevada and South Dakota to see the monuments & national parks. Carol was happy to donate to local charities, didn’t follow any specific denomination but believed devoutly that there was a God. She had a real momma bear streak, you did NOT mess with her family, a wicked sense of humor, couldn’t take stupid but loved getting into nonsense.
Preceded in death by infant son Richard Dale Baker Jr, sister Debra Mae Person (Curtis), brother Randy Curtis, father Loren Duane Curtis, mother Ruthie Mae Curtis (Givens).
