Norma Jean Boles

Norma Jean Boles (nee Colborn), 84, passed away April 17, 2014 at Carnegie Village Senior Living Community in Belton, MO, after battling lung cancer for over 11 years. She was born on September 9, 1929 in Pilot Knob, MO, to Harvey Bernard Colborn and Mary Jane Colborn.

Norma graduated from Ironton High School, Ironton, MO, in 1947 and moved to St. Louis, MO, where she worked at Gaylord Container Corp. She was baptized into the Roman Catholic Church on April 9, 1955 in St. Roch’s Church. On August 17, 1957 she married Carl Gerald Boles, who was at the beginning of a career in the USAF. One week after the wedding, Carl deployed for a one year tour of duty with the USAF in Nord, Greenland (over 1,000 miles north of the Arctic Circle). After Carl’s return, Norma accompanied him on USAF assignments to Kelly AFB, TX, Goodfellow AFB, TX, Shu Lin Kou AS, Taiwan, Keesler AFB, MS, Langley AFB, VA, and finally Richards Gebaur AFB, MO. Norma lived in Flora, Ill, while Carl served in Vietnam. After Carl’s retirement from the USAF, Norma and Carl were residents of Belton, MO, area from 1970 until their deaths. All three of their sons graduated from Belton High School.

In retirement, Norma enjoyed traveling with Carl, along with tracking down goodies at local estate sales. Norma especially enjoyed visiting family. Over the years Carl and Norma traveled to Mexico, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Australia and many times to Hawaii. Norma was a good-hearted and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her kindness, thoughtfulness and warm smile will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband of over 51 years, Carl Gerald Boles; her parents, Harvey Bernard Colborn and Mary Jane Colborn; and siblings, Raymond Sutton, Thelma Sutton Chilton, Eula Colborn Womble, Marjorie Colborn Weiss, Edna Colborn Weshinskey, Bonnie Colborn Ebbeson, Ruth Sutton O’Dell and Ruby “Rody” Colborn Wicker.

She is survived by her three sons Carl Gerald Boles Jr. (spouse Angela Elizabeth Boles and their daughters Hilary Jean Boles and Hanah Veronica Boles) of Scottsdale, AZ, Dean Keith Boles (spouse Karla Kay Wildberger) of Dubuque, IA, and Glenn Alan Boles (spouse Angela Ranee Boles and their children Logan John Boles and Ellie Lauren Boles) of Ft. Worth, TX.

On May 2, 2014 a visitation, 9:30 am, and service, 10:30 am, will be held at St. Sabina Catholic Parish, 700 Trevis Ave, Belton, MO, with the inurnment in the Belton Cemetery. Following the inurnment, a reception will be held in the dining room at Carnegie Village, 107 Bernard, Belton, MO. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Sabina Catholic Church.
